About this book

Twenty short chapters arguing a single point: that the power of preaching lies in the praying life of the preacher, not in method, machinery or talent. Bounds wrote it after a lifetime of rising at four to pray, and every chapter opens with the testimony of an earlier man of prayer.

About E. M. Bounds

Edward McKendree Bounds (1835-1913) practised law in Missouri before he was ordained in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. He served as a chaplain during the American Civil War and was twice imprisoned. For the last seventeen years of his life he rose at four in the morning to pray, and wrote the series of books on prayer for which he is remembered, most of them published only after his death.
