About this book

A short reading for every morning and every evening of the year, each opening from a single verse. Spurgeon wrote the evening readings first, in 1865, and added the mornings the year after. It has been the most widely used English devotional ever since.

About C. H. Spurgeon

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) became pastor of London's New Park Street Chapel at nineteen and preached to congregations of several thousand at the Metropolitan Tabernacle for most of his life. He founded a pastors' college and an orphanage, and his printed sermons ran to sixty-three volumes, the largest body of work by any Protestant author. Contemporaries called him the Prince of Preachers.
